Nursing Assistant Career Overview
Students learn to provide direct patient care under the direction and supervision of our staff of Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and other medical professionals. Nursing assistance provides critical support functions such as transporting patients, making beds, serving meals and answering patient calls. Common responsibilities include assisting patients with eating, dressing, bathing, and becoming ambulatory. A nursing assistant may work in a hospital, physician’s office, home healthcare setting via a home health agency, nursing home, private home or mental health facility, and may be tasked with taking patients’ temperature, pulse, respiration rate and blood pressure. Nursing assistant job placement prospects are expected to remain positive as the population of older Americans increases, fueling demand for rehabilitation and long-term care.
Certified Nursing Assistant Program
Employment as a nursing assistant requires completion of a CNA training program including a minimum of 85 hours and a passing score on a certification exam. Each student is required to have a 2-step TB test prior to clinical rotation, which can be obtained by the student at their preferred location before classes begin, or done for an additional fee by a Registered Nurse at the CNA school. Tuition and clinical skills fees include textbooks and lab fees. Upon completion of our nursing assistant program, including completion of the CORE Basic class, our CNA school will assist you in obtaining a Nursing Assistant Registered license (NAR) from the Department of Health, and our graduates also receive a CNA certificate of completion that qualifies them to sit for the state CNA exam.
